A 57-year-old man was found dead from drowning at Milan Beach on Monday.
According to Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone, the accidental drowning occurred some time before 1:50 p.m. A call came in that a person was spotted submerged in a swimming pond at Milan Beach.
Firefighters from Milan Township recovered the victim, Raymond Anthony Perez, of Detroit, about 30 feet from the shore, in 8 to 10 feet of water.
Perez was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to a preliminary investigation, Perez had been swimming on the east side of the pond, and at some point he went under the surface of the water undetected and never resurfaced.
Police say the incident is still under investigation.
