Detroit police are searching for a man who allegedly shot and killed his roommate on Tuesday.

"I truly hope and pray that he turns himself in," said Pastor Sharon Thorpe, whose 24-year-old grandson, Tony Thorpe, was allegedly shot and killed by his roommate. "You have nowhere to run."

On Wednesday afternoon, Detroit Police released a photo of Thorpe's roommate, Markeil Japree Welch, 24.

After the shooting, Welch fled the house and Detroit Police have been searching for him.

Police say Thorpe confronted Welch after discovering that Welch was continuing to steal from him.

Thorpe and his brother let Welch move in about two years ago in hopes of helping him get back on his feet.

"Unfortunately, they all trusted him," said Antiwan Wiley, Thorpe's father. "They were always trying to help him out."

Welch is described as being five feet six inches tall and weighing 150 - 160 pounds.

Detroit Police say he is to be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone who sees him is urged to call 911.
