HARPER WOODS, Mich. (WXYZ) — Police and firefighters battled a deadly house fire in Harper Woods early Thursday morning.
The fire broke out on Country Club Drive in the area of Mack and Harper.
A captain with the fire department told 7 Action News reporter Ali Hoxie that a neighbor called 911 after seeing smoke around 1:20 a.m. this morning.
“The neighbors told us that if the car is in the driveway, he is usually home, lives by himself," said Captain Dave Mehl of the Harper Woods Fire Department. "With that level of smoke and heat, I was basically saying this is a recovery not a rescue.”
Harper Woods police tell 7 Action News a man was found dead inside a home.
As for the fire itself, the fire department believes it started on the top floor of the home.
Fire department officials initially informed 7 Action News there was a marijuana grow operation, but have confirmed there were plants in the home, believed to be Bonsai plants.
No word yet on what caused the fire. The case is still under investigation.
