Gas prices continue to fall in metro Detroit ahead of solar eclipse

As we near the end of summer, gas prices in metro Detroit continue to fall for the third straight week. They still remain higher than the national average.

According to GasBuddy, gas prices in metro Detroit have fallen 4.2 cents a gallon and now average $2.41 per gallon. That's still nine cents higher than the national average of $2.32 per gallon, which fell 2.4 cents.

With the change, the prices are still almost a dime higher than they were a year ago and are also 1.3 cents a gallon higher than a month ago.

Comparing the gas prices to the past years, it's higher than it was in 2016 at $2.32 per gallon, $2.90 per gallon in 2015, $3.42 per gallon in 2014, $3.46 per gallon in 2013 and $3.92 per gallon in 2012.

Ann Arbor is down 6.7 cents to $2.42 per gallon while Flint is down 12.2 cents to $2.31 per gallon.
