Allen Park police say I-94 westbound has reopened just east of Southfield.
The freeway was closed after a truck carrying garbage caught on fire around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Police say the truck driver, upon discovering the load was on fire, dumped the garbage on I-94. The load spread across all three lanes.
It took crews hours to clean up the mess.
