A man and his son have died after the pair was pulled from a lake in Highland Township Monday morning, according to the Highland Township Fire Department.
We're told the 35-year-old father and 4-year-old son were fishing about 350 feet from the boat landing area when they fell through the ice. Rescue crews say they were under the water for about 8 minutes before the dive teams could get them to safety.
The victims have been identified as David Michael Lyons, 30, and 4-year-old Jackson Lyons.
Divers from the Oakland County Sheriff's Department pulled them from the lake and transported them to a local hospital where doctors worked to save them. However, they were pronounced dead just hours apart.
The 911 call came in at 10:36 a.m. and deputies arrived on scene just six minutes later. The dive team was in the water at 10:55 a.m. and recovered the bodies at 11:09 a.m.
The dive team arrived very quickly because there are a few dive team members assigned to Highland Township.
The tragedy has officials warning people not to go our on the ice, and if you do, be very careful.
