7 Action News has learned the mother of a 6-month-old baby killed in a hit and run crash last week will now be charged.
LaToya Powels, 40, will face a judge on charges of Involuntary Manslaughter—Homicide, Operating with a High Blood Alcohol content above .17 also known as super drunk, driving with a suspended license and child abuse for not having three kids in seat belts.
She was arrested shortly after. Sources tell 7 Action News she appeared intoxicated during the arrest and relatives were trying to hid her in a car as police drove by.

The crash happened last week on Puritan at Archdale.
The alleged hit and run driver, 31-year-old Deandre Cody, was also charged in the case but not with Involuntary Mansalughter. He’s charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death, driving with a suspended license and other counts facing up to 15 years in prison.
6-month-old Demetrius Brown was killed in the crash. Two sisters, ages 2 and 4, were critically injured and her 12-year-old son was also injured. Three kids were ejected in the crash.
Demetrius Brown, Senior came to court to see the driver of the other car and wondered why he was not charged with Manslaughter. Brown was not aware at the time Powels was also being charged.
