Police are investigating an explosion at a home on Detroit's west side.

Fire crews have put out the fire that started around 4 p.m. on Thursday. Neighbors in the area recall hearing a boom before the home was engulfed in flames.

Fortunately, the family that lives at the house was not home at the time of the explosion.

The house, located at 19799 Lindsay, has partially collapsed.

DTE Energy and arson investigators are currently on the scene. Fire officials say it may be gas related.

The investigation is ongoing.
