The complex will also house the corporate headquarters for the team as they move from Auburn Hills to downtown Detroit.

It will be built on land owned by Henry Ford between Wayne State University and Henry Ford Hospital, about two miles north of the Pistons' new home at Little Caesar's Arena.

According to the team and Henry Ford, construction will begin this summer. They hope the entire complex will be ready in time for the 2018-19 season.

With the agreement, Henry Ford will also become the official health care provider of the Pistons and have naming rights for the new complex.

"We are very excited to work with Henry Ford Health System on this innovative project," Owner Tom Gores said in a release. "It's a long-term partnership that establishes another building block in the revitalization and rebuilding of our city. It's also an important investment in our team, providing Stan and our players with the best training and development resources available anywhere."

This is the first major move the Pistons have made since announcing their move to downtown Detroit in November 2016.

In all, the performance center will house nearly 100,000-square-feet of basketball equipment with amenities including:

  • Innovative player locker room and lounge
  • Full-service kitchen/dining facilities and personal chef
  • Spacious weight room with state-of-the-art equipment
  • Film and study meeting rooms
  • Advanced training room capabilities
  • Greenspace and courtyard locations
