A 13-year-old boy has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of 14-year-old Frederick Austin.

He has also been charged with careless discharge of a weapon causing death and felony firearms.

7 Action News has learned that Austin brought the gun to the vacant home on Radnor on Tuesday night.

Investigators now say it appears the shooting was accidental. Sources say the handgun went off when the 13-year-old was trying to clean it, hitting Austin in the back of the head with a single shot.

During a court hearing, the referee said the 13-year-old did have marijuana in his system when he was booked.

At the scene Tuesday night, Austin's uncle told us, "Never in a million years did I think I would be standing here talking to about this. Parents teach your kids about guns, please."

Chief James Craig was on the scene for a while Tuesday night, meeting with the victim's family.

The scene was emotionally charged, with family and friends screaming in agony when learning about the news.
