A Detroit woman made a shocking discovery late Saturday morning while she was walking her dog.
Betty Ballard was walking near 7 Mile and Lahser on the city's west side when she came across a human skull.
"He kept pulling me over that way, sniffing and sniffing," Ballard said of her dog.
The skull was found in a wooded area near a cemetery. Wayne County Sheriff's deputies and Detroit police were on scene trying to figure out how the skull ended up in the area.
Authorities have not called it a homicide investigation, and they are waiting for a forensic anthropologist who will be able to determine how old the skull is and how it ended up in the area, separated from its skeleton.
