Dog rescued from dumpster in Detroit on route to landfill

Posted

A dog was found in a roll-off dumpster in Detroit on the way to a landfill.

7 Action News was there moments after she was rescued.

"My frustration level is extremely high," said Theresa Sumpter of the Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue.

They usually have to go through a lot of "garbage" when saving a dog. This time, they literally had to.

"They rent out these dumpsters and when the dumpster was brought back to their facility to be dumped, this dog was dumped out of the dumpster live, alive," Sumpter said.

The trash was dumped at a transition station and was on the way to a landfill.

"She could've been seriously injured. Luckily, she looks like she's fine."

Sumpter believes the pup was dumped in there.

"What would go through somebody's mind to make them think that would be a good place to put a dog?" she asked.

She also believes this pup recently gave birth.

"We see that all the time," she said. "They're done with the mom, she served her purpose. They discard her and then they sell the puppies."

"It will be very difficult to prove who put the dog in the dumpster," she said.

Sumpter says the dog is probably a boxer or pit bull mix and about three years old.

The dog is also very friendly.

Sumpter has this message to the person who may have dumped this dog:

"Really an idiot. Truly a moron. To put this beautiful dog in a dumpster. Why would you put this beautiful dog in a dumpster? She does not belong in a dumpster. She belongs in a home."

The dog will be taken to a vet and then placed in a foster home. She will be up for adoption after she is medically cleared.
