"I never had a clue that there was still any tension. I thought they were getting along fine," said Sandra Beavers whose son was shot and killed by his biological father Monday.
Eric Hatchett, 36, was just getting to know his father, 50-year-old Karleton Wright. Beavers says Wright has wanted nothing to do with Eric since he was a baby.
But about a year ago the two men began getting to know each other when Hatchett went to work for his father.
On Monday, we're told the father and son got into a heated argument at Wright's auto repair shop on the Lodge Freeway near Pembroke on Detroit's west side.
Prosecutors say Hatchett hit Wright in the face and Wright pulled out his handgun and shot Hatchett.
Wright then drove his son to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Karleton Wright is now charged with Second Degree Murder. He's being held without bond as Hatchett's loved ones plan his funeral.
Wright's relatives declined to comment Thursday.
Eric Hatchett leaves behind 18 children - nine girls and nine boys.
