Squatters terrorizing Detroit neighborhood

Posted

Neighbors tell 7 Action News they are living a nightmare after squatters moved in on the block.

They've been cited by police, and were even busted for stealing electricity, yet they are still at the house. Even with Michigan's new squatter laws, getting them removed isn't easy.

According to Detroit police, Tonya Houston and her crew have been living in the home close to a year. The previous owner moved out and the ownership is in transition, making it an easy target.

Houston was issued a misdemeanor citation for squatting, and was ordered to vacate the premises. So far, she has refused to leave.

When visited by 7 Action News Reporter Ronnie Dahl, "Billy Joe" said people need to mind their own business.

When a neighbor's small dog approached, Billy Joe kicked the dog, saying he doesn't like dogs.
