Detroit Police tell 7 Action News that they've arrested a man and a woman in the murder of 33-year-old Starkisha Thompson who was killed just six days after testifying against Kenneth Dixon.

Dixon was arrested in Harper Woods last month after he allegedly carjacked Starkisha and her boyfriend. Starkisha was a witness in that case.

The 23-year-old woman now under arrest, accused of helping to plot Starkisha's murder is Dixon's girlfriend, according to a police source who adds that the 39-year-old man arrested is an ex-con who met Dixon in prison.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig says the suspects tried to buy Starkisha's silence and she refused, and instead stood up to do the right thing, knowing that her role in helping to prosecute Dixon could save someone else's life.

"For that, she's an American hero," said Chief Craig.

Craig said if Detroit Police or Harper Woods Police had known about any threat or attempt to buy Starkisha's silence, they could have "quickly stepped in and provided any security necessary to keep her safe."
