An Amber Alert for a 5-year-old boy has been canceled.
Douglas Ball III was found safe in Orion Township, according to the Port Huron Police Department. He went missing on 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
His father, 39-year-old Douglas Ball II, is in custody in connection with his disappearance. The elder Ball is also a person of interest in a murder in Port Huron.
According to police, the child was recovered after a standoff at a home in Orion Township.
According to the Port Huron Times Heraldthe boy's mother was found dead in a home in the 1200 block or Rawlins in Port Huron. Officers responded to the home after she was reported missing.
The paper reports that the elder Ball is wanted in Oakland County on an outstanding warrant for a traffic violation. He is believed to be headed out of state. Police told the paper he was recently discharged from parole and has a prior conviction for armed robbery.
The son is 4'5" tall and weighs about 100 pounds. He is white with blue eyes and blond hair. He was last seen wearing a Superman shirt.
The father 6'4" tall and weighs about 240 pounds. He is white with blue eyes and blond hair. The Time Herald says he has a pit bull tattoo on his left calf, the world 'gorilla' on his left forearm and the word 'kennel' on his right forearm.
Ball is being called a Person of Interest in the murder.
The were last seen in the 1200 block of Rawlins in Port Huron.
It is believed they are traveling in a maroon or brown 2000 Chevrolet Malibu with Michigan license plate DFC 9403.
