(WXYZ) — A new report shows Michigan is the best in the Great Lakes states when it comes to jobs created from hunting and fishing.

The Michigan United Conservation Clubs will be meeting with state lawmakers as well as business leaders Monday to discuss their report.

The group, in partnership with Michigan State University, found that the state's hunting and fishing industry generates more than 11 billion dollars of economic impact every year, more than twice the previous estimates from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service.

More than 170,000 jobs are created every year, putting in the top 10 percent of the state's job-creation industries.

The greatest impact is in Southeast Michigan.

The findings are based on analysis of data from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Department of Commerce.
