A local rescue group is desperate to help a dog found with a severely mangled paw that was left for dead on Detroit's west side.
A Good Samaritan called volunteers with A ReJoyceful Animal Rescue for help when they saw the emaciated dog in distress in the area of 7 Mile Road and Telegraph on New Year's Day.
The dog has now been named "Creed."
According to the rescue group's Facebook page, Creed "flatlined," but with the "aid of CPR and a simultaneous blood transfusion, he was resuscitated. He had part of his leg removed and he is heartworm positive. He is still critical but he is stable."
Creed's mangled paw was removed to prevent infection, but the veterinarian treating Creed has indicated that when he's strong enough, he will have to undergo surgery to amputate the leg.
It's unclear how Creed was injured. He could have been hit by a car or gotten his foot caught on something. Several weeks ago, a dog was rescued from the city's east side after it appeared someone had mutilated his genitals.
