Local police and firefighters responded to a bus fire on eastbound I-94 and Warren Monday afternoon.

Officials have confirmed there were no passengers on the bus.

The driver says he smelled smoke, pulled the bus over and the fire started.

It is believed the fire started in the engine compartment.

Fire Commission Dave Fornell says they are now treating the incident as a Level 1 Hazmat. About 60 to 100 gallons of diesel fuel may have leaked into the drainage system.

Traffic is down to one lane open on the eastbound I-94 as a result of the fire.
