Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette says criminal charges will be filed against former state Reps. Todd Courser and Cindy Gamrat.
The AG held a press conference on Friday to announce the charges.
"When I started this investigation on September 4, I stated it would be conducted without fear or favor, and without consideration for political party affiliation. That is precisely what has occurred,” said Schuette.
Courser is facing felony charges including perjury and multiple counts of misconduct in office. Gamrat is also facing multiple misconduct charges.
The two were forced out of office last year after a bizarre cover-up related to their extra-marital affair.
“No one is above the law, not even those who walk in the halls of power,” said Schuette. "We are demonstrating that no one... is beyond the reach of the law, not even those who make laws and we are demonstrating when laws are broken, that justice can and will be delivered.”
Schuette says Courser and Gamrat must turn themselves in by March 3.
Paula Proctor said she was Courser's longtime friend and supporter -- but not anymore.
When asked what she would say to him, she stated, "Face up to it. Come on, get out of the closet now you're being charged now, there are four felonies, come out and face your charges.
She explained, "As a lawyer he knew what he was doing, and as a state representative he knew he wasn't working for this community."
"He's hiding behind Christianity. He's given this community a huge black eye which we did not need."
"If he did this he needs to step up to the plate. If it was me, I would already be in jail."
