Whirlpool recalling 15K+ microwaves due to fire hazard

Whirlpool is recalling more than 15,000 microwaves because a plastic piece inside can ignite, creating a fire hazard, according to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission. 

Multiple incidents have been reported including a home fire and two fires that damaged nearby cabinets.

The recall involves Whirlpool brand microwave hood combinations that were sold in stainless steel, black and white. The microwaves were sold at Sears, Lowes and other home improvement and retail stores from January 2014 to April 2016. 

Consumers who own the recalled microwaves should stop using them immediately and contact Whirlpool for a free replacement.
