Wife charged after attack on husband and dog

Yvonne Cortis, 58, is now charged with attempted murder for allegedly trying to kill her husband by beating him with a crowbar. She also charged with animal torture for using that crowbar to allegedly deliver blows to their 12-year-old golden retriever Carley. 

Police say Mrs. Cortis told them her husband and dog were both sick and she was putting them out of their misery.

Yvonne and her 68-year-old husband Gregory Cortis have been married for about eight years. In that time, he's filed for divorce twice but then they reconciled. He's now on life support with his children by his side. His daughter telling police that Yvonne has mental health issues and that she's violent, unbalanced and refusing to get treatment.

Veterinary care specialists in Milford are treating Carley for the injuries she sustained when Yvonne Cortis allegedly hit her on the head, back and chest with that crowbar. A number of people have offered to pay for her vet care while Mr. Cortis recovers, but the vet is treating her at no charge in hopes that people will donate to the community sharing pet pantry.

Yvonne Cortis is from Canada and is in the U.S. on a green card. Her bond has been set at $1 million.
