SAN DIEGO (WXYZ) -- Tigers general manager Al Avila made it clear Saturday: he's open to making moves ahead of the trade deadline.
"We're still trying to win," Avila told reporters prior to Saturday's game at Petco Park. "We'll still try to make this team better somehow, some way, and our hope is we get on the right track."
The Tigers had lost seven straight games entering Saturday night. Avila said while many teams wait until July 1 to begin making moves, he's open to something sooner.
"Based on where we're at and how we've been playing, I've got to keep all options open. I've got to start listening to some clubs if there's some interest out there. I have to now open myself up and be flexible and listen to whatever might come our way."
Avila added that he feels the clubhouse is well aware of the current situation.
"These guys have been around the block a little bit, they understand you win, you move forward, and you don't win, obviously we have to be open to whatever changes come our way. So I think we're all geared for that."
The MLB trade deadline is July 31.
