BERKLEY, MICH ( WXYZ) — Elwin & Company is a bakery in Berkley that opened its doors in the fall of 1990 as a small European-style cafe serving breakfast and lunch.
In the spring of 1991 “Detroit Monthly” magazine voted Elwin’s scones “Best in Detroit.” Without knowing it, Elwin & Company became a scone factory, growing from four employees producing two dozen scones daily to more than 18 employees. Today, it produces anywhere from 600 to 1,200 dozen on an average day with more than 20 varieties, including fat free, reduced fat, savory, sugar free and trans fat free.
