ANN ARBOR, MI (WXYZ) — The Main Street Area Association, State Street District, Kerrytown District Association, and South University Area Association are announcing their partnership with the get Downtown Program for the Conquer the Cold Challenge this January.

Called Conquer the Cold – Pandemic Edition [getdowntown.org], this year’s challenge is designed to encourage people who work, dine, and/or shop in downtown Ann Arbor to continue to do so, supporting local businesses, throughout the month of January.

The Conquer the Cold Challenge is designed to educate and encourage commuters to travel using alternative modes of transportation during the winter months. Through education, outreach, and different fun challenges, the campaign aims to help commuters get over the potential barriers of alternative commuting in colder weather. The goal is to show that it is not as difficult to get downtown without driving as it may seem. For the Pandemic Edition, the community is encouraged to Conquer the Cold and support downtown!

This year make the trek downtown, exploring different transportation options, and support businesses. There are incentives and prizes for ordering curbside, dining outdoors, and shopping downtown. Additionally, many restaurants will be taking part in a Comfort Food Challenge!

The remaining campaign calendar is as follows:

    • January 22 - 24 -- Pot Pie Pile On
    • January 29 - 31 - Chef's Best Winter Dish
  • January 31, 2021 – last day for eligible trips
  • February 4, 2021 – last day for trips to be logged to be eligible for prizes
