(WXYZ) — When Great Lakes Hotel Supply owner Marc Israel was thinking about what he could do to give back to the local Metro Detroit restaurant community, he decided that in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the extreme toll it has taken on our area, he would create a GoFundMe fundraiser called ‘Local Love’ to help raise much needed money.

Great Lakes Hotel Supply, a food service equipment dealer has worked with thousands of Detroit area restaurants throughout the years and Israel knew he had to help. He then reached out to the Michigan Chefs de Cuisine Association (M.C.C.A.), which launched in 1970 by Chef Milos Cihelka, the first Certified Master Chef in the country, to further culinary education, professional growth, networking opportunities and to support charitable organizations, all to benefit the restaurant community in Michigan to partner with.

Together, they created the GoFundMe ‘Local Love’ fundraiser which will kick off Tuesday, December 8th and will run through March 1, 2021 and has an aggressive goal of $500,000 all to help our local restaurant industry. Whether it be the waitstaff, bussers, host/hostess, cooks or the business owners, Great Lakes Hotel Supply is committed to help this struggling community, with 100% of all funds raised going to those in need, minus processing and administrative fees not to exceed 10% of donations.

Marc Israel recently said “Since the inception of Great Lakes Hotel Supply it has been our honor to serve the restaurant community by providing top-notch services and equipment. During this never-before-seen economic crisis it is crystal clear that we must do something now to help our local restaurants survive. We are asking everyone, as individuals and as corporations, if you have the ability to donate please help us reach or exceed our goal of $500,000. These folks are really in need and it’s vital that we help them.”

A 2 tier-funding plan has been established to help both the owners and the individual employees. Business owners must register themselves and their employees for approval. Any business applying for help must be registered in the state of MI. All money raised will be distributed to the owners and their employees, based on total donations received. Great Lakes

Hotel Supply will write their first check in the third week of December to help the community over the Christmas Holidays, and then monthly checks will be distributed.
