Detroit Crime Commission to host Inaugural event raising awareness against Human Trafficking

DETROIT, MICH (WXYZ) — You are invited to join the Detroit Crime Commission for “Sound the Siren.” The inaugural fundraiser will raise money to help stop human trafficking.

The Detroit Crime Commission’s mission is to act as a citizen ally to public and private organizations in Southeast Michigan, by facilitating the prevention, investigation and prosecution of crime leading to a safer place to live, learn and work. The DCC has been involved in and continues to support many initiatives and projects to improve public safety in Southeast Michigan from Nuisance Abatement to direct analytical and intelligence support.

Sound the Siren is being held on Friday, January 31st at 6:30pm at Bleu Detroit, 1540 Woodward, Detroit, MI 48226. The fundraiser will include strolling bites from Empire Detroit, Table No. 2, Mario’s, Jim Brady’s Detroit, Cool Jack’s Ice Cream and Annabelle Catering just to name a few. The benefit will also feature an open bar and live entertainment by Ben Sharkey. The recipe for one of the dishes that will be available at the fundraiser is posted below.

Winter squash bisque

2 tablespoon unsalted butter
1 white onion- diced 2 large carrots- diced 4 cups peeled and cubed winter squash 4 cups vegetable stock
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg 1 teaspoon curry powder 1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger salt and pepper 1/2 cup heavy cream

Sauté vegetables on medium heat with butter, once tender add stock and spices. Simmer for 30 minutes. Blend in blender or immersion blender. Add cream, season with salt and pepper
