GROSSE POINTE SHORES, MI (WXYZ) — Lovers of roses are invited to head to Edsel & Eleanor Ford House (Ford House) in Grosse Pointe Shores for an evening in Eleanor Ford’s Rose Garden and New Garden. Tickets are now on sale for the second annual Evening of Roses, 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 27.
This special event gives attendees a chance to experience the ambiance of the historic estate’s gardens after hours, sip wine and delight in the roses in full flourish during the prime bloom of the year. Revelers will enjoy new casual educational opportunities and chats with experts where they can learn more about roses and their varieties, uses and more. Music performed by a live strings duo will set the mood for this leisurely evening among the blossoms.
During the event, desserts created by internationally-inspired sweets maker Warda Pâtisserie will tempt the palette, including shiraz tart with rose and lychee, geranium cake and gluten-free rice pudding. Guests can nibble an artisan chocolate or two from Hamtramck confectioner Bon Bon Bon and try a glass of rose hip soda, which tastes similar to cola. Half-sandwiches will also be available from Detroit-based Rocco’s Italian Deli.
Evening of Roses is the centerpiece of Ford House’s Summer of Roses series which surrounds the event with a bouquet of workshops throughout the season, all themed for Eleanor Ford’s favorite flower. Upcoming opportunities to learn in the Rose Garden this summer include a Rose Care Workshop, June 6; Macro Photography, focusing on floral close-ups, taught by Creative Vision Photography, Aug. 10; and Art in the Rose Garden, a watercolor session led by Venturelli Studio, Aug. 17.
