Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit marks the 52nd anniversary of the student-led protest at Detroit’s Northern High School with its original production, "Northern Lights 1966." This is the powerful true story of Detroit students who stood up for their rights – and won!
Featuring music of the era, "Northern Lights 1966" will open May 11th and run through May 20th at the Detroit Film Theatre within the DIA. This timely and provocative play was written for Mosaic’s young artists by NYU playwright Michael Dinwiddie.
The issues raised by this historic protest, such as the struggle for academic equity and the power of young people to take action against injustice, are just as important today as they were 52 years ago.
