SOUTHFIELD, MI (WXYZ) — Sib4Sib is on a mission to provide a safe space and community for individuals, ages 6-18, to express the challenges of having a sibling with developmental or cognitive differences or struggling with mental health.

In addition to providing an outlet and support system, Sib4Sib also helps siblings develop skills for dealing with their built up emotions and strategies for dealing with the everyday challenges of living with an atypical sibling. The central goal of the organization is to show siblings that they are not alone with their feelings and experiences. Siblings are just as affected by the needs of the sibling who is struggling or has differences as the rest of the family.

Unlike the rest of the family, the siblings do not have an avenue to express frustration, anger, and resentment that develop in their daily life. Sib4Sib addresses this need by creating a safe space for siblings to share their frustrations
and learn coping strategies in a support group setting facilitated by a licensed mental health professional. In addition to support groups, Sib4Sib provides resources, advocacy, networking, and social outings. All programs are free of charge.

Sib4Sib support groups are facilitated by licensed mental health professionals, including (but not limited to) licensed professional counselors, licensed social workers, and licensed psychologists. To learn more, visit https://www.sib4sib.org/about-us.html
