SOUTHFIELD, MICH (WXYZ) — The eight-day festival of Passover is celebrated in the early spring, from the 15th through the 22nd of the Hebrew month of Nissan, April 19 - April 27, 2019.
Passover (Pesach) commemorates the emancipation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt. Pesach is observed by avoiding leaven, and highlighted by the Seder meals that include four cups of wine, eating matzah and bitter herbs, and retelling the story of the Exodus.
Charoset
6 cups peeled, cored and fine chopped Honey Crisp (or favorite) apples
2 lemons, juiced
1 cup roughly chopped walnuts
1/2 cup honey
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 cup kosher for Passover sweet red wine
Combine all ingredients well. Taste for seasoning and adjust. Enjoy immediately or refrigerate and use later.
