Kirk Gibson started a new team on Thursday night.

Speaking in front of a crowd of 800 people at the 26th annual Angels' Place dinner, Gibson shared his life story. He discussed the great moments like his home runs, and the tough moments like his Parkinson's diagnosis. Then Gibson challenged everyone in the room.

The cause: help people with developmental disabilities. Gibson's plea: match his $5,000 donation to help build a village of homes for Angels' Place.

People answered the call.

35 men and women left their seats and joined him on-stage to match his donation. Do the math. That's $175,000 pledged to help Angels' Place.

WXYZ's Brad Galli again served as emcee for the annual dinner, which serves as the largest fundraiser for Angels' Place.
