(WXYZ) — Hollywood is reportedly going back to the 1980s for their next reboot as multiple entertainment news outlets are reporting the a update to the NBC sitcom Punky Brewster.
Both Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter say original series star Soleil Moon Frye is set to reprise her role. In the original series, Brewster was a young girl being raised by a foster father, played by George Gaynes.
Gaynes died in 2016 at the age of 96.
Frye is reportedly set to serve as an Executive Producer of the show, which will reportedly see the title character as a single mother of three.
The show is being written by the team behind School of Rock and Grounded for Life.
The original Punky Brewster ran on NBC from 1984 to 1986 and then in syndication from 1987 tp 1988.
The reboot has not yet found a broadcast or streaming home.
