President Donald Trump has been briefed on rapper A$AP Rocky's continued legal troubles in Sweden, where the performer currently remains jailed on assault charges, according to reports from TMZ and Axios.
A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers has been detained in Sweden since he turned himself in on "serious" assault charges for nearly two weeks. The rapper's lawyer claims that A$AP Rocky is being held in solitary confinement with no phone or visiting privileges.
According to TMZ, fellow rapper Kanye West and his wife, Kim Kardashian West, alerted Trump's Senior Advisor Jared Kushner to the rapper's situation. Kardashian has visited the White House in the past to lobby for criminal justice reform, and West visited the White House as a supporter last year.
Once Kushner was briefed on A$AP Rocky's situation, Kushner spoke to Trump about the situation. According to Axios, Trump told his team he wanted the issue resolved.
Swedish officials have until tomorrow to charge A$AP Rocky or set him free. The case can also be delayed, meaning the rapper would stay in jail.
