703 people have died on Michigan roadways this year

(WXYZ) — A total of 703 people have died on Michigan roadways this year, the Michigan Department of Transportation reports.

Additionally, there have been a total of 4,201 people seriously injured on state roadways to date.

Compared to last year at this time, statistics show that there are 73 fewer fatalities and 21 fewer injuries.

The numbers were provided by Michigan State Police for the Toward Zero Deaths statewide safety campaign, which is intended to influence driver behavior and improve safety.
