(WXYZ) — Gas prices across the state are continuing their upward spike, AAA Michigan reports.

Prices have increased 11 cents from last week. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $2.50 for regular unleaded, the highest price seen since January 2020.

AAA says this price is 32 cents more than this time last month and 12 cents more than this time last year.

Motorists are paying an average of $38 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline.

"An increase in crude utilization and increasing crude prices have contributed to higher pump prices," said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA - The Auto Club Group. "It's likely that drivers will see this trend continue through the month of February."

Metro Detroit’s current average is $2.46 per gallon, about 7 cents more than last week’s average and 5 cents more than this same time last year.

  • Most expensive gas price averages: Jackson ($2.54), Saginaw ($2.54), Grand Rapids ($2.54)
  • Least expensive gas price averages: Traverse City ($2.32), Metro Detroit ($2.46), Ann Arbor ($2.47)
