The Wayne County Commission approved an $8.9 million contract with the J.F. Brennan Company for the construction.
The bridge has been closed to traffic since May 2020 to allow for rehab and maintenance of the bridge's superstructure.
It came after engineers found accelerated deterioration of the bridge's footings during an underwater inspection, which halted construction in November.
“It is our priority to get the Grosse Ile Parkway Bridge open to traffic as soon as physically possible, but our first priority is to ensure the safety of all who would use it,” said Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans. “This needed rehabilitation project will increase the use of the bridge for years to come.”
The bridge is expected to be open to traffic once the superstructure and underwater pier projects are complete.
