(WXYZ) — The Grosse Ile Parkway Bridge, also known as the free bridge, will be closed for at least another year after Wayne County officials say engineers found significant erosion of the bride's support piers.

According to the Wayne County Department of Public Works, engineers doing inspection last week found severe erosion.

The bridge closed in May 2020 and was supposed to open in December, but those piers must be fixed before it can open.
The Grosse Ile Toll Bridge will remain the only bridge for people to get on and off the island.
