GROSSE ILE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Grosse Ile Parkway Bridge is expected to close on or around May 1 of this year, the township said on Thursday.
According to Grosse Ile Township, the bridge closure will be determined by the contractor, but could be closed through October.

In November, the bridge closed for emergency repairs and was closed for just over a week while those repairs were made.
In May, 7 Investigator Heather Catallo revealed the Grosse Ile Parkway Bridge received a 3 rating for safety, and was listed in serious condition, according to an inspection report. Wayne County is responsible for maintenance and safety inspections of the bridge with oversight from MDOT and the Federal highway Administration (FHWA). Bridges in the county are rated on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the best.
The free bridge carries 75 percent of traffic, and motorists will have to utilize the toll bridge as an alternative route while the bridge is closed.
During the emergency closure, traffic was backed up for miles as people tried to get on the island.
