FARMINGTON, Mich. (WXYZ) — Getting around metro Detroit is getting a little bit easier with the launch of an app in the area and a new partnership.
The app Moovit is already used in other locations around the world, but is now usable here in the Detroit area. This is the app's first American location launch.
The goal is to tell people the best form of transportation to get from point A to point B.
“Moovit will calculate out for you all the possible routes using public transit in your city, if your city has buses and the metro and the rail, it could be a combination of those. It also has a bike-sharing system or if Uber is Lyft is available, so we combine that as well to give you a number of alternatives you can choose from,” said Chief Marketing Officer for Moovit Yovav Meydad.
Now Moovit is teaming up with SmartBus. If you live in Farmington or Farmington Hills, you can book a Quick Connect route.
Moovit will look for routes as well as reserve your spot. The upside: Avoiding crowded bus stops, especially during the pandemic.
“We found that many users would like to avoid crowdedness in stations while they are waiting for their vehicle in order to paint social distancing, and on-demand routes allow you define pickup locations at every street corner so citizens do not necessarily go to bus stops and become crowded there,” said Meydad.
