DETROIT (WXYZ) — Drivers heading to Detroit this weekend and next weekend are urged to avoid the Lodge Freeway as southbound M-10 will close this weekend for bridge work.

According to MDOT, the highway will close at Wyoming at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16 and remain closed throughout the weekend for work on the Wyoming bridge over the freeway.

That bridge was hit by a high-load vehicle and repairs have to be made to the beam.

Lane closures will begin on southbound M-10 at 7 Mile to direct all three lanes of traffic to the Wyoming exit. Drivers will be able to cross Wyoming Ave. and then re-enter southbound M-10, but driers should prepare for backups.

The highway is expected to be back open at 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 19, but will close again at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 23 for the weekend to finish the work.
