(WXYZ) — Residents Downriver are still waiting and wondering, how much longer until last year's construction two bridges on Dix Toledo Highway will be complete

The bridges, one over Pennsylvania in Southgate and the other over Allen in Brownstown Township, have been closed for over a year. They were supposed to be complete in five months.

"It was in terrible repair, it was scary to go over," Sandy Martinez told 7 Action News.

Work on the bridges includes deck overlay, painting, new barriers and new guardrails.

According to county oficials, crews found additional unexpected repairs that are needed – which means a new design, more supplies and more money to pay for it all.

The county is hoping to have work finished and the bridges reopened by fall, turning a five month project in 19 months.
