Paletko has served as the mayor of Dearborn Heights since 2004.
He leaves behind two daughters, Marie and Ann, and has a long history of public service.
Several state officials and local departments took to social media to honor and remember the late mayor.
Congresswoman Debbie Dingell released this statement after learning of the passing of Paletko's passing:
“Dan Paletko was a kind man, dedicated public servant, and dear friend who worked with John and I for decades with a deep devotion to the Dearborn Heights community. The suddenness of his passing is a devastating reminder of how vicious this virus can be. Every Monday I spoke with Dan about how to protect our constituents from this pandemic and tragically as he fought to keep his neighbors safe, the virus took his life. My heart goes out to his family, friends, and all who worked with him as we all mourn his loss.”
The Dearborn Heights mayor was a member of the American Legion, Volunteers for Income Tax Assistance. Paletko also ushered at St. Linus Church.
Paletko did not publicly reveal his battle with COVID-19 prior to his passing.
Our thoughts are with all of his loved ones, colleagues and friends.
