Chevrolet revealed two new models for 2016 an updated Cruze and the new electric Chevrolet Bolt EV.
General Motors Chairman and CEO, Mary Barra introduced the new Bolt by driving it onto the stage herself.
"The Bolt EV is truly the vehicle that cracks the code of long range and affordable price,” said Barra.
The big selling points for the Bolt, it’s can be available for under $30,000 and it can drive for up to 200 miles on one charge.
"Solves sort of all of the problems we've seen with electric cars. High price or high cost, limited range or range anxiety,” said Mark Reuss, the President of GM, North America.
Another plus for the Bolt, it will be assembled in the GM Lake Orion facility.
That’s something Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) is very much in support of .
"When were debating back in 2008 and 2009 whether or not we were going to have support for the industry to continue, one of the plants on the chopping block was the Lake Orion plant, to go from a situation where we thought that plant was going to completely close to where are cutting industry, state of the art, front of the pack,” said Stabenow.
A potential drawback of the new electric Bolt, the demand for electric vehicles has gone down with lower gas prices. GM leaders don’t expect that to last.
"What you will see, as fuel prices fluctuate and they will, as fuel prices do go higher at some point in time you will see a movement towards these type of vehicles,” said Alan Batey, senior VP, Chevrolet.
Then new Bolt and the Cruze will be on showroom floors starting this spring.
