Classic car lovers stake out their spots for Woodward Dream Cruise

Classic car lovers are gearing up for a busy weekend. The Woodward Dream Cruise takes place this Saturday, although folks stake out their spots early.

A married couple has had a front row seat at every single Dream Cruise.

It's part of their yearly ritual.

Mary and Terry Snyder bring out their own classic car everyday starting on Monday until Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

"Just getting out here with this old car makes me happy," Mary said.

They love to show off their 1955 Chevy Bel-Air, but they are more interested to watch what others drive along Woodward Avenue.

They've been coming out every Woodward Dream Cruise since the event began.

Even though the Dream Cruise is on Saturday, everyone knows the days leading up to it can be fun for people and for car watching.

That's why the Synder's make a point to claim a spot with chairs starting on Monday.

Terry says there is just something different about classic cars.

"You can tell what they are. Back then, you knew what a Chevy was, you knew what a Ford was," Terry explained. "Today they all look the same."

The couple enjoy meeting up with old friends who are also car enthusiasts, but they love seeing new faces.

Mary said, "A lot of people come a long ways to come her just for this."

"We see a lot of new cars that we don't see before," Terry added.

Seeing classic cars reminds Mary of the good old days.

"It's nostalgia," she said. "You go in these old hangouts up there and it just brings back.... I'm 73, I'm like 'you know what, I've been around a while."

If it rains, then the Synders won't come out.

Not because they don't want to get wet, but because they don't want their car ruined.
