2 injured after small plane crashes into Mid-Michigan lake

ISABELLA COUNTY, Mich. (WXYZ) — A pilot and passenger were injured when the small plane they were in struggled to gain altitude after take off, and crashed into Littlefield Lake in Isabella County Saturday.

The crash happened at 1:20 p.m.

According to a release, the plane was attempting to take off from the lake before the crash. There was also strong wind gusts during take off, which may have been a factor in the crash.

The plane struck a tree before nosediving into the body of water.

People in the area on another transportation vehicle, rushed to help the pilot and passenger out of the cockpit of the crashed plane. The Nottawa Sherman Fire Department, Mobile Medical Response assisted the Isabella County Sheriff's Office with the rescue.

The pilot and owner of the plane, Tyrone Finch, 54, of Tennessee, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger of the plane, Patrick Jarman, 62, of Deerfield Township, was last listed in serious condition after being airlifted toa Grand Rapids hospital.

The crash is currently under investigation.
