2018 review of the lessons learned in our 'Living A Better Life' series

DETROIT (WXYZ) – As 2018 draws to a close, we reflect on some of the stories we brought you this past year.

The launch of my Living a Better Life series was a way for me to learn along with you some practical ways to help improve the mind, body, and spirit.

From Reiki or energy healing to float spas (and, yes, I tried both)...there are many ways to ease stress and relax -- both physically and emotionally.

We learned the reported benefits of transcendental meditation from participants right here in metro Detroit.

We watched the Novi Community School District teaching "mindfulness" to second graders to help them focus.

Parents received advice on how to avoid overloading kids with after-school activities by analyzing their mood and asking three telling questions.

We learned what's sabotaging your sleep (tech, intense streaming shows, and lack of a wind down routine) and how to remedy the problem -- like putting your lights on a timer and sleeping with a weighted blanket.

We tried out the five ways to improve our digital well-being to connect with purpose and improve relationships -- like taking a digital fast for at least one hour a day and giving people eye contact when you're having a conversation.

We also practiced the top four stretches for those who sit a lot at work or have long commutes.

And we noted the best store-bought water for our health according to an expert -- it's VOSS water in the glass bottles.

And I certainly won't forget how NOT to consume apple cider vinegar for health benefits.

Don't drink it straight! Dilute one-to-two teaspoons in water and enjoy!
