DETROIT — A Detroit non-profit organization that has been providing a safe place for at-risk youth to learn and grow for nearly 50 years, invited WXYZ to see the impact.
As part of the 7 In Your Neighborhood series, we visited Detroit Impact while they hosted children for a 6-week summer camp.
Calvin Colbert, Executive Director of Detroit Impact, says the organization's goal is to provide a safe space for youth to come, learn and grow.
The center provides services for children six through 12 by offering sports, arts, crafts games, adventure and even clinics for building confidence, conflict resolution and money management.
During the school year, the center collaborates with Erma Henderson Academy on numerous projects such as Solar Girl, a DTE Energy initiative exposing girls to renewable energy in hopes of them becoming green industry leaders.
