(WXYZ) — Gas prices in Michigan took a dive of 13 cents from last week, now averaging $2.81 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel.
While price is still 8 cents more than this time last month, it's about 9 cents less than this time last year. On average, motorists are paying $42 —$1.50 less than when prices were their highest last May — for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline. Gas prices throughout the country increased slightly this week, according to the AAA - Auto Club Group.
Metro Detroit ($2.89), Ann Arbor ($2.88) and Marquette ($2.83) had the most expensive gas price averages. Metro Detroit's average is 6 cents less than last week's average.
The least expensive averages were in Traverse City ($2.67), Flint ($2.71) and Saginaw ($2.72.)
Total domestic stocks of gasoline grew by 3.6 million bbl to 232.8 million bbl, according to the Energy Information Administration’s report for the week ending July 12.
