According to the department, the officer was suspended as part of an investigation after an MLive photographer and two other journalists were shot with rubber bullets.

Those workers identified themselves as journalists, MLive said, but were still shot with the rubber bullets.

Police say 11 other incidents involving the protests are under investigation.

Protests broke out in the city after George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis by a police officer on Memorial Day. Protesters and police clashed in the first nights, with hundreds of people being arrested.

Detroit police also reported their officers being attacked, and a curfew was instated in the city. After one night of enforcement, police decided to no longer enforce the curfew and instead let the people protest peacefully.
